Ratio Christi at Crandall University is pleased to award our ministry’s honorary Legatus Christi certificate to Benjamin Wilson!

Ben graduated from Crandall University in 2024 with a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Theology, the latter degree being completed in partnership with Acadia Divinity College. Ben’s currently studying for his Bachelor of Education at Crandall and has been involved in the Ratio Christi club on campus for the last few years, having spent the past two years serving as the club’s Treasurer and Secretary.

It brought much pleasure to RC at CU’s Chapter Director, Cody Guitard, to award Ben the Legatus Christi certificate. “Ben has been an absolute delight to have in our Bible studies and group discussions,” says Cody. “He’s a very thoughtful guy, but what I appreciate most about him is the genuine attitude of love, gentleness, respect, and humility he brings to every conversation, including on heating topics and points of sharp disagreement. He’s a truly relational apologist.”

Ben was kind enough to answer some questions for us as he reflected on his time as a Ratio Christi student and his reception of the Legatus Christi certificate.

1 – When did you come to Christ as Lord and Saviour, and how did that come about?

I began to take following Jesus seriously when I was 16 years old. I grew up in a Christian home, but I didn’t really care about following Jesus as much as following the rules and having a get-out-of-death-free card. After a certain sermon at church, I began looking into stuff about sin more and realized how messed up I was. Though it has been a slow journey wrestling against my fleshy desire to do things my way, God has shown me His rich grace in following Him.

2 – How did you become interested in apologetics, and how did you get involved with Ratio Christi?

I didn’t really know what apologetics meant, but I did like learning more about defending my faith and finding answers for it. I have a doubting problem, and I sometimes needlessly doubt things that I do not need to. Having answers for my faith helps me to realize how pointless my doubts can be. I saw posters for Ratio Christi but didn’t start regularly attending until I became the Crandall Student Association contact person for the club. I remember one day thinking that I should at least go to the meetings if I was going to be their contact person.

3 – What impact has the Ratio Christi ministry on your campus had on your walk with God and your personal ministry?

It has given me more answers, enriched my understanding of topics I would not have otherwise studied, and connected me with a group of people that I have a ton of fun with. I struggled with a lot of doubt in my faith, but Ratio Christi has been a place where I have grown in my confidence in God and the Scriptures.

4 – What does receiving the Legatus Christi certificate mean to you?

It was a huge surprise to me because I had no idea that it even existed. I received it during my friends’ graduation, and it was really neat being able to celebrate an achievement we all got together. I don’t really feel worthy of the award, to be honest, as it describes someone that I have a hard time seeing as being me. However, it is an honour to have received the award, and I am grateful to have been given it.

5 – How do you envision taking the apologetics you have learned through Ratio Christi into your future endeavors?

My hope is that I will use what I have learned to help people in schools understand Christianity and clarify barriers that they may have to the faith. God is so good, and I want to share His goodness with others. Using what I have learned will help people understand that this good God is also logical.

6 – What would you say to other students who might be considering getting involved in Ratio Christi, whether they be skeptics, seekers, or believers?

Come in with an open mind and an eagerness to learn. Even if you are skeptical about the material, understand that there is such thing as objective truth, and to understand what this truth is will forever change your life. Taking time to learn about the Christian faith may not be your first choice, but it will be your best choice ever. For those who want to know more about their faith, there is much you can learn about. Taking time to attend Ratio Christi will, at the very least, give you new and different perspectives on big issues and debates within the faith. Plus, you get to meet some fun people!

Congratulations, Ben!

It’s always exciting to see passionate students like Ben go through our campus ministries and come out the other end ready to be effective ambassadors of Christ in the world. Students like him are the reason Ratio Christi awards the Legatus Christi certificate. Congratulations, Ben!

Please keep Ben in your prayers as he continues to love and serve God and others with all his mind.
